Criminalist I – Criminalist IV, Nuclear and Mitochondrial DNA Analysts

Forensic Scientist II, III, IV & Forensic Science Section Supervisor
The City of Phoenix, AZ  is currently accepting application for the position of Forensic Scientist II, III, IV & Forensic Science Section Supervisor.

Salary: The salary range for Forensic Scientist II, Forensic Scientist III, Forensic Scientist IV, & Forensic Science Section Supervisor is: $46,301 - $103,376 annualized
Nature of Work: Forensic Scientists apply the physical sciences to the investigation of crimes by performing laboratory analyses on physical evidence. Incumbents could work in various facets of this classification. Controlled Substances: includes the analysis of drug evidence such as marijuana, heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine, diverted prescription drugs, and steroids. Having documented competency in the above examinations is highly desirable. Questioned Documents: includes the analysis of paper and other material with regards to handwriting, typewriting, ink comparison, erasures, alterations, obliterations, check washing, and forged documents. Having documented competency is highly desirable.
Requirements: To meet the minimum qualifications for this recruitment, you must have a Bachelor's degree in a natural science (i.e., Biology, Chemistry, Cellular and Molecular Biology, Biological Physics, Forensic Science), criminalistics, or a closely related field. Criminalist I – Criminalist IV, Nuclear and Mitochondrial DNA Analysts
The Arizona Department of Public Safety Crime Laboratory is seeking applicants for Criminalist I – Criminalist IV job classifications for both nuclear and mitochondrial DNA analysts.
Closing Date: Open Until Filled (posted Oct 2011)
Salary: $47,133 - $76,715, depending on experience
Nature of Work: Nuclear and mitochondrial DNA analysis.   The mitochondrial DNA positions do not require previous experience as a mitochondrial DNA analyst. 
Requirements: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course of study in chemistry or closely related physical or natural sciences with minimum of thirty (30) semester hours in chemistry and one (1) year of experience as a criminalist in a recognized crime laboratory. Additional criminalist experience, beyond the required one (1) year, may substitute for semester hours of chemistry (one (1) year additional criminalist experience equals ten (10) chemistry semester hours).   Candidates should be able to meet the QAS standards for the position.

FBI Latent Hit of the Year
The FBI Latent Hit of the Year are videos that recognize officers and latent examiners in law enforcement, promotes the use of the FBI database, and encourages other agencies to submit nominations for future Latent Hit of the Year awards.

The FBI Latent Hit of the Year award was created in response to a request from the local and state law enforcement community for more details on major violent crime cases solved with the assistance of the Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System (IAFIS). The award, which goes to an outstanding latent examiner or officer who worked the case, is presented annually at the International Association for Identification conference. If you are interested in submitting a success story for consideration as a "Latent Hit of the Year," contact the FBI Criminal Justice Information Services Division at FBILatentHit@leo.gov.
